Yoga Mat FAQ
1. Which yoga mat is a good all-round yoga mat?
The eco-friendly extra-large cork yoga mats from our range are the perfect companion for all yoga styles. The 6 mm thick mats optimally support joints and bones, while the absorbent cork surface provides excellent grip even during long, strenuous exercises. Although the mats are larger than standard mats, the lightweight TPE material on the underside of the mat ensures that these mats are easy to transport, no matter where you go.
Myga's jute yoga mats in standard size, as well as our basic yoga mats are also an excellent choice for anyone who practices different yoga styles.
2. What is the best yoga mat for Yin Yoga/Restorative Yoga?
We recommend a yoga mat with a minimum thickness of 4 mm to protect your joints and maximize your comfort. A good choice are the extra-large cork yoga mats as well as our jute yoga mats.
3. Which yoga mat do you recommend for Hot Yoga?
Our cork yoga mats offer the ultimate grip in a sweaty practice. Their absorbent material was specially developed for hot or Bikram yoga and can be easily washed by hand. Experience maximum traction and control during your yoga practice.
4. I tend to slip on my mat. Can I do anything about it?
It is normal to sweat during a yoga practice, as our nervous system stimulates the sweat glands. We have listed some ways to improve your grip below:
- Give the mat time to adjust: With regular use, the surface slowly adapts to the contours and movements of your body and offers the best grip so that you can stay in the optimal position and get the most out of your practice.
- Do not use creams, oils or lotions before your yoga class.
- Wear yoga socks and place your towel next to your mat.
- Switch to a mat made of a different material.
The cork yoga mats in our range, for example, offer excellent grip so that you don't slip during your practice. The mat offers excellent cushioning and stability, so you feel comfortable during your yoga practice and still have a firm surface. The advanced grip technology ensures excellent grip in all conditions, even when you sweat.
5. What are the signs that I need to replace my yoga mat?
- You notice wear and tear
- Your yoga mat starts to smell
- The cushioning is uneven (which happens over time in certain places, depending on your body shape and which poses you do most often)
- The mat doesn't offer enough cushioning.
6. What can I do to make my yoga mat last longer?
- Clean your mat regularly
- Practice with clean hands and feet
- Try to avoid body creams and oils
- Air dry your mat after every sweaty practice
- Avoid direct sunlight
- Do not use shoes or heavy weights on your yoga mat
7. Can I practice outdoors with a Myga yoga mat?
Practicing yoga outdoors is a fantastic way to connect with nature, and we at Myga encourage you to do so, but please keep in mind that regular use of your yoga mat on grass, sand, stone or earth can damage the yoga mat. Remember that a clean yoga mat is essential to protect the lifespan of your mat.
